When the mouse roared back Part 2

The year 1985 was a crucial year for Disneyland, and really lay the groundwork for the next year, which marketing team aptly named, "Looks like we started something! Disneyland '86 ". The new team Eisner, Wells had been busy the past two years to turn a lot of work, and many of them show up in 86. The "Special GiftGiver" continued again, but this time instead of every guest 30th winner for the next nine months each guest won something every day! Prizes range from free popcorn, juice bars, Passports Disneyland, Disney home video tapes movies (this was before DVD's), Kodak cameras, Mickey Mouse watch collection, PSA return air ticket, 25-inch RCA TV, a collection Mickey Mouse pin and a Pontiac Firebird 1986. A computer at the office entrance ticket was scheduled for each morning, a manager would enter the main entrance that scheduled days of attendance and park hours. The team then randomly select that turnstile at what point will receive a prize. For example, to award Kodak camera at 10.15 am at number 12 of the turnstile, energized team that tourniquet tourniquet when the blade became a thousandth of a second after this time, the ticket is printed with the Kodak prize printed directly on it. The Cast Member to read the award, handed the ticket to the evaluation congratulate them. Now when the grand prize was awarded each day the car would not have a photo session with a Disney character, usually Mickey and Minnie. This was actually pre-assembled the computer displays the time the car would be awarded, so that the Department of characters who have time to set the characters around the park so adequate and have the right character available at the main entrance. It took a little time before we realized how they were our guests receive knowledgeable, some of our people who have had annual passes quickly figured that if you were standing right in the right place, you could see Mickey and Minnie standing in a particular place ready to be brought onstage as the machine went crazy GiftGiver announce the winner of the car. It was found that on average about 6-12 people with passes were taking a chance and land the turnstiles at a guess as to when that time would be. We quickly huddled and changed tactics to the characters were not seen so we stopped telegraphing when that event would take place. I do remember vividly one evening when a car that would be given later, sometime around 14:00, and no one had been through the turnstiles for 30 minutes. When the time came for the car to be given, all open the turnstiles are activated, so that everyone who first turned the paddle after the activation time, won the car. So there we were, the turnstiles had been activated for almost 30 minutes, waiting to give away Pontiac Firebird, and there are no results in sight. Finally! Two young came in sight after buying the tickets, walk and talk and smile. I remember that as they both walked, one of them made a gesture for the other to be first, with what unknowingly giving your friend a new set of car keys. I also remember how excited I was to his friend, and told him how he was in class at that time. That year I remember being very funny, almost everyone seemed to be in a good mood and optimistic. Not sure if it was a postponement of the very popular and successful of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles last year, a strong economy, or just what it was, just know that Disney began to experiment constantly high level of the masses never experienced before, and the results were generally very happy to be there!

In 1986 no less than five parades that year. People not in the theme park and entertainment industry may not understand the enormity of that statement seems simple. But the cost, design effort, the parade of floats, resources allocated, the entertainment team is probably just tripled in less than three years. It was a huge undertaking, but also gave some of the most memorable (and infamous) parades and entertainment events in memory. Main Street Electrical Parade returned after a long hiatus, and audio greatly improved along the parade route and the tremendous technological improvements in lighting elements, his popularity hit new heights and was the night, assistance even higher. During the day, one of the most popular parades to succeed at one time took advantage of a popular character who had been somewhat relegated to one side, and brought it back up on the cutting edge of fashion hip '80s, with the parade Totally Minnie. As I mentioned in my first article, The Walt Disney Company (recently renamed Walt Disney Productions) also received an added financial bonus during this time with a massive increase in people who have annual passes. Many of these people who are fans passes became frequent and the users of these parades, many even becoming close friends with the performers. Totally Minnie Parade was a definite favorite with many people who have passes to demarcate favorite places and encourage your favorite artists, and many of the performers performers responded back to your favorite people with passes.

As fun and entertaining as the parade was totally Minnie for guests and artists alike, two parades others less likely based on larger events, had their own peculiarities, and plays nearly every day. There was the Circus Fantasy Parade ... the man who was a parade of strangers. Disney characters seemed to be thrown together with some circus animals (although Brahma Bulls do not qualify as "circus" animals, I believe, along with the dancers, extravagant costumes. I remember that, apart from waving palms and the Disney characters, and be amazed by the giraffes and elephants, especially the crowd seemed quiet, still dazed by the strange procession. Did I mention the mounds of elephant dung incredible that would occasionally adorn the parade route? The giraffe was arrested at his home cage with wheels ... it was just strange. The soundtrack was probably the worst of each production time, since the standard circus theme, with lyrics drawn Disney Circus Fantasy, and then repeated again and again ad nauseam. Disney cast were ready to run screaming after 3 days of parade after listening to the soundtrack alone. That along with the first Fantasy Circus (described in Part 1), there were parts of 1986, which were say, less than stellar. The themes Fantasy Circus brought some customers who were somewhat less than what Disneyland was used to. Perhaps it was the pig racing, or motorcycle that was mounted on a cable to the tip of Fantasyland Matterhorn, and then retreated to the bottom. There was the trapeze on the main road that seemed strangely out of place, although it appears a member of the famous Wallenda flight was pretty good. It was always my feeling that the divisions of the Entertainment and Marketing has been, basically, has unleashed creative (and financially) and launched both the guests who were able to reach, and if tolerated guests, returned for one year or two. What customers really liked, so it was a different history. Then he could run for years and years as the Main Street Electrical Parade. On the other hand, the theory went south when Totally Minnie Parade. Here was a great show, very popular with both cast and a guest alike, and lasted only one year. Eisner and Wells were very pleased with the success experienced in the parks, so the creative divisions were given a new lease on life. A key division see new life (loosely translated ... the money) was the ancient secret WED Imagineering, languishing for too many years without the necessary funding to create serious the unique properties that only Disney can create. Eisner and Wells to lead the company forward, one of the initiates were going first was learning all about WED and as children in a candy store, happy to turn the machine on funding to start a series of projects that still have the turnstiles spinning. First, that WED renamed Walt Disney Imagineering Imagineering (WDI), in order to follow the new corporate brand in general. What were some of the new cool (mid- the '80 's) coming projects, together with those that never saw the light of day ...?
